  EDUC 5373: Week 5 The focus on my technology integration plan is aligned to supporting the needs of student digital literacy. While reliable internet access may not seem like an immediate factor within digital literacy, students need access to reliable and consistent internet access so they can gain valuable skills as they learn to navigate the digital world both safely and effectively. My district currently provides students with Chromebook use while at school through each teacher’s Chromecart within their classroom. If students need a Chromebook at home for homework completion or other academic reasons, they can check out a Chromebook to keep at home for the week. If students need internet access at home, they can apply for a hot spot from the district. These issues must first be addressed so students can practice valuable digital literacy skills both in school and at home.  EDUC 5373: Educational Leadership Blog 4 When structuring the implementation of my technology integration plan, the professional development component is paramount. We can’t expect teachers to carry out new initiatives without the proper training and support. The ISTE standards highlight this key issue in Educational Leaders Standard 3.3.b Empowering Leader that says, “Build the confidence and competency of educators to put the ISTE Student Standards and ISTE Educators Standards into practice (ISTE, 2024). When implementing new technology initiatives, providing professional development is a critical component. I will follow my district’s professional development model when implementing this technology integration plan. EDUC 5373 Innovative Leadership: Blog 3

When implementing a technology vision, it’s important to seek out credited research to support the mission. Helen Crompton outlines effective technology integration using the ISTE standards to align best practice. One study outlined the differences between a traditional classroom and one that used innovative technology-based teaching approaches. Four classrooms with 116 students, the experiment yields significant differences in learning outcomes with the innovative classroom technology compared to the traditional classroom. Higher learning gains and increased motivation were found within the innovative technology classroom (Crompton, 2023). These practices align with ISTE Educator Standard 2.2 where educators “seek opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment and success and to improve teaching and learning” (ISTE, 2024).
